Still confused about choosing the right institute and right speciality

Thousands of medical students sit for the medical PG entrance examination to get a course of their liking. Only a few make it to sit in the course of their choice. Every year after a lot doing hard work for months and years students who clear entrance exams to enter post-graduate (PG) medical course are caught up in another dilemma of choosing the subject, also, which institute to choose from hundreds of medical institutes all over India. However, it is not practically possible for students to know details about each and every institute in India.

Tricks to make the right preference

So here we are with the tricks devised by our experts on how to choose an institute over other just by looking at previous year’s counselling allotment lists. Below given are the tricks for the same to easy your dilemma of choosing the correct institute.

Trick 1

Trick lies in the fact that many students have already researched about institutes before taking admission out there and after taking admission they may leave that institute for some other institute for various reasons. Reasons could be things like talking to residents of the joined institutes and then finding out the quality of teaching or patient load in that institute which could help students in determining whether they should retain the seat or apply for an upgrade. Also residents know about other institutes and their quality which might also be helpful for the student. A thing to remember is that if a student gets a good seat from a good institute then he/she will always retain it and not apply for upgrade in subsequent rounds.

Trick 2

Analyse the previous year’s counselling lists of various exams like AIPGMEE, AIIMS, DNB, DNB PD-CET, FNB, PGI, JIPMER, state levels counselling  or any other medical counselling for that matter. Students can easily assess by looking at the counselling list with the candidates who upgraded and migrated to different institutes for some obvious reasons which prove the better quality of education of the institute to which the student’s migrated.

Trick 3

Be updated about the institutes with better education quality and specialities. This can be checked through Internet or other media sources. Also try to contact PG students or pass outs online if possible as they have the better knowledge about the institute and can guide you well.

Trick 4

Have a Mentor to guide you through the entire process to get you a good speciality in a good institute. Follow his lead and work out your way for the same. Choose the mentor wisely so that you can ascertain a bright future ahead.

Trick 5

All India Counselling which could be easily analysed by the students and accordingly preferences can be filled by them. Generally the students opt for the institutes in hometown or in the same state and also apply for the course which has higher salary and less workload. Now the trick is that look for the ‘better’ institute where candidates want to go less. This would fetch you an easy seat.

The same trick can be used in applying for the speciality where candidates want to go less because they want easy God life after the course.
