Ordinance for NEET

NEET was initially introduced in 2012. Some states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka opposed it. Supreme Court declared the test unconstitutional in July 2013. The Ordinance was finally approved by Supreme Court in April 2016. NEET has now been granted a statutory status by the Government by amendment to the Indian Medical Council Act.

Difference NEET will make

NEET serves as a sole basis for admission to medical courses and has been granted a statutory status by amendment to the Indian Medical Council Act. NEET  is universally applicable across all States and Institutes under the Indian Medical Council Act.

Exceptions to NEET

For 2016 UG admissions, State governments have the option of filling the Seats under State Government Institutions either through NEET or their own test.

It is a binding upon Private Universities, Deemed Universities, Private Medical and Dental colleges to fill their seats through NEET.

There will be no exception to NEET PG whatsoever.

Applicability of NEET to DNB Courses

DNB courses might also fall under NEET PG exam this year. The Government will take the decision on this issue in the coming days and we will get a clarification by the end of July 2016.

Will NEET be held Every Year?

NEET has attained a Statutory Status as per the directives of the Supreme Court. Therefore, NEET will be held every year.

Can States opt out of NEET?

Some States had opposed the conduct of NEET. However, as Statutory Status has been granted to NEET as per the directives of Supreme Court, NEET is binding upon all State Governments/ Deemed Universities/Private Medical Colleges.

NEET Exam pattern

The Government will take a decision and issue notification concerning the detailed test scheme for NEET PG soon.

Who will Conduct NEET PG and NEET SS?

National Board of Examinations (NBE) will be the authority responsible for conducting NEET PG and SS.

Applicability of NEET PG Scores

Admission to MD/MS courses in all Government colleges and Private & Deemed Universities shall be made on the basis of NEET PG Scores.

Status of Institutions like AIIMS, PGI, JIPMER with respect to NEET

NEET PG will be applicable to institutions which fall under the ambit of Indian Medical Council Act

And Dentists Act.

However, AIIMS, PGI and JIPMER are statutory institutions with their own act, so they will hold their own exam and will continue to be covered under their own rules and regulations.

Counselling  After NEET PG and SS?

Each Counselling conducting Authority shall frame their own merit list and seats will be allocated strictly as per merit.

Admission Criteria after NEET PG shall be framed as per the Merit list prepared by the Counselling conducting Authority.

Counselling conducting Authorities have the autonomy to frame their own merit list from amongst the candidates who have qualified NEET exam.
