Hello, please tell us something about yourself.  My name is Dr. Meghashyam and I completed my MBBS from Osmania Medical College. I have secured AIIMS PG Rank 17 and PGI Rank 3 in the May 2017 exam. What do you think is the correct approach to study for AIIMS PG? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's? Theory with MCQ’s is the correct approach. When should the preparation ideally be started? Ideally standard text books should be read during MBBS which should be complemented with coaching classes in final year or internship. Please list the books you studied for each subject. The books I have read for preparation are mentioned below:

  • Anatomy- Pulse + Rajesh Kaushal Sir notes
  • Physiology- Soumen Manna
  • Biochem- Rebecca James
  • Pathology- Devesh Mishra
  • Pharmacology- Ranjan Kumar Patel
  • Forensic- Sumit Seth
  • Microbiology- Apurba Sastry
  • ENT- Manisha
  • Opthalmology - Sudha Seetharam
  • SPM- Vivek Jain
  • Medicine- Mudit Khanna + class notes
  • Pediatrics- Sushanta Bhanja
  • Surgery- Pritesh Sir class notes + Surgery Sixer by RRM
  • Gynae & Obs- Punit Bhojani

Yes, I attempted PG exams in Nov 2016 and my previous AIIMS rank was 352. How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for AIIMS PG and how much time should be dedicated for it? AIIMS is based mostly on concepts so one has to be perfect in them. 2 revisions are essential so as to recall faster. Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how? I used to read articles written by toppers and their tips from PrepLadder which were very useful. Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track? I followed the study plan of my coaching class. Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MBBS? I used to score good marks during MBBS. List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you. I found Biochem the most difficult subject. One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for AIIMS PG. Many get depressed and get doubts if they can crack AIIMS. Just to reiterate that if you do 6 months preparation and stay focused, then you can get through this exam. How many questions did you attempt in AIIMS PG? I attempted 185 questions. Some last tips for our readers preparing for PG? Don’t waste much time on theory alone, try to solve maximum number of MCQ’s. More topper tips coming soon, keep following this space.
