PrepLadder congratulates Dr.Madhusudhan N. on securing Rank 2 in MCh Neurosurgery and Rank 3 in DM Neurology in NIMHANS. We wish him all the best for his career and future ahead. In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, he shares the plan that worked for him to help you get an amazing rank too. Hello, please tell us something about yourself. Hello. My name is Madhusudhan N. I graduated from Bangalore Medical College. I secured Rank 2 under MCh Neurosurgery and Rank 3 under DM Neurology in NIMHANS. What do you think is the correct approach to study for NIMHANS? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQs? As for any exam goes, having a clear knowledge of concepts by studying the theory of that topic becomes very important. That said, applying those concepts by solving a variety of MCQs also as important. So theory plus MCQs is must. Studying a book from page 1 to the last page is the wrong approach. You should prioritize topics based on how frequently they come in exams. When should the preparation ideally be started? Ideally you should start as you enter your internship. So that at the end of it when you give your first NEET attempt you'll realize where you stand. You should ideally build your concepts in UG days, rather than solving MCQs. Please list the books you studied for each subject. Anatomy- Dr.Ashwani Sir notes Physiology- Soumen Manna Biochemistry- Rebecca James Pathology -Govind Garg + Devish Sir notes Pharmacology -Govind Garg Microbiology- Apurv Shastry Forensic Medicine- Sumit Seth PSM- Vivek jain Ophthalmology- Ruchi Rai ENT- Manisha Orthopedics- Apoorv mehra SARP- Arvind arora Surgery- Pritesh OBG- Puneet Bhojani Pediatrics- Arvind Arora Medicine- Dr.Thammem Sir notes For NIMHANS- Harrison Neurology is a must, especially all the tables. Omkarnath- for previous question papers. Have you attempted PGMEE previously? Yes, my NEET rank this year was 298. How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for NIMHANS and how much time should be dedicated for it? Revision is the key to success in this entrance preparation. Without revision it becomes very difficult to remember all the 19 subjects. A minimum of 3 revisions of all subjects is a must before any exam. Practicing MCQs by solving previous papers and giving mock exams will boost your confidence, and also helps you rectify your mistakes. Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how? Yes, most definitely. I used to solve the daily MCQs to assess myself, at the end of finishing a subject I used to give subject tests. This really did boost my confidence. I have given all the mocks conducted by PrepLadder, they very much simulate the actual exam. The questions have a very good standard and they give apt explanations. So I would recommend everyone to take up these mocks. Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track? Yes, I did keep a study plan, just to keep myself in track of finishing the subject and to plan the revisions I wanted to do. I studied for 10 hours a day, and gradually increased the time as exams neared. List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you. Most difficult were pharmacology and forensic. Easiest were anatomy, medicine and pathology. One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for NIMHANS. Concentrating only on neurology related topics. NIMHANS exam pattern is always changing. But got the last 2 years, around 50 questions come from neuro related topics and rest 100 come from all other subjects. So to get a good score you need to revise all subjects equally. Some last tips for our readers preparing for NIMHANS? Please do go through Harrison Neurology tables. Keep a screenshot and keep revising them whenever possible. Don't underestimate your caliber. Aim high and work honestly towards it. I wish all the Juniors the very best.
