In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, she shares the plan that worked for her to help to get a wonderful score in FMGE. Hello, please tell us something about yourself.  My name is Smita Patil, and I have completed my MBBS from St Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy, Russia. I have attained 151 marks in FMGE December 2016. What do you think is the correct approach to study for FMGE? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's? Firstly, it is important to know the theory and your concepts should be clear.Only solving MCQ’s without reading theory won’t help much.The correct approach is to read one topic or subject and then solve MCQ’s accordingly. When should the preparation ideally be started? Ideally one should start his preparation 6-7 months prior to the exam as the pattern is a little different than the exams we have faced in our respective medical colleges. Though one should be very dedicated and determined as 6 months is a long time. Please list the books you studied for each subject. In all the subjects I read the notes I obtained from my coaching along with MCQ books like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry: PhyBiAn. Pathology: Gobind Garg. If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success Yes,I have. Just sitting and reading is not enough, having a correct approach and proper guidance along with motivation is necessary. One has to study smartly and utilize their knowledge in the right direction to get proper results. How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for FMGE and how much time should be dedicated for it? Practice and revision have an immense role. Just knowing is not enough, unless one is able to apply it, it doesn’t help much. At least 3-4 times revision of each subject till the time of exam is a must. Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how? PrepLadder has been very effective and helpful. The questions are a good mix of repeats and new questions, which gives an idea of the exam The analytical section helps you judge your strong and weak sections. Not only that, you can see the time spent on each question, most importantly indicating whether you are rushing through a section or not. Thus also giving you the feel of the real exam and building your confidence. Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track? Yes ,I did. So far the hard part was to stick to the plan which was difficult,but I still tried. Were you a topper or a mediocre student during graduation? Neither. List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you. The easiest were OBG, ENT and Ophthalmology; the difficult ones were Pharmacology and Microbiology. One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for FMGE Getting depressed.Its very easy to believe that you can’t do it. Thus, letting negative thoughts crawl into your mind taking away your will to study and give your 100%. However, these thoughts should not be allowed to creep into the mind. The will to not give up beats up all negativity. Some last tips for our readers preparing for FMGE?
