In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, he shares his plan that worked best for him to help score well in FMGE. Hello, please tell us something about yourself. My name is Dr.Mirang Patel. I graduated from Bukovianian State Medical University. I have scored 207 in FMGE.

What do you think is the correct approach to study for FMGE? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?

Combination of both I would say. Practicing more MCQs gives you an idea about the pattern being asked in the exam and it also helps training your mind in solving MCQs.

When should the preparation ideally be started?

Ideally, it should be started 1 year prior, but if you have built concepts then 6 months are enough. Please list the books you studied for each subject. FMGE Solutions by Dr.Deepak Marwah & Dr.Siraj. Review of Pharmacology and Pathology by Dr.Garg & Dr.Gupta.

Have you attempted FMGE previously? If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success

No, this was my first attempt.

How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for FMGE and how much time should be dedicated for it?

Practicing MCQs gives you confidence. I practiced more MCQs from the topics which I found difficult to remember. And one must have a revision plan according to me, It could be daily, weekly or monthly. Only multiple revisions will help you retain info and help you recall it.

Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?

Yes, definitely. I subscribed for FMGE Video Pack a year before and I benefited from MCQs and Videos both. I regularly solved MCQs topic wise from the app. I also participated in one of the mock test exam conducted by Dr.Deepak Marwah before the exam and it was a confidence booster for me.

Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

Yes, it's important to have a study plan. It should be made according to your strengths and weaknesses. It also gives you an idea where you stand and what more needs to be done.

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during graduation?

Mediocre, I would say. List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you. Ophthalmology and Microbiology being most difficult for me. And I found OBGY, Physiology and other short subjects relatively easy. One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for FMGE One mistake you should avoid is reading from multiple sources. Stick to a single reliable source and stick to it throughout your preparation. One should not give attention or worry about what others are preparing from. You should also know what NOT to study like topics which are rarely asked in the exam. You should have command on topics which are being repeated frequently.
