In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, she shares the plan that worked best for her to help her score well in FMGE. Hello, please tell us something about yourself. (do mention your name, graduation college, and FMGE marks). Hello, My name is Dr Sonam Dhingra. I graduated from Central America Health Sciences University, Belize. I scored 227 marks in the FMGE Dec 2018 session. What do you think is the correct approach to study for FMGE? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's? I would say both. Theory and MCQs both are equally important. Studying only theory or solving only MCQs tends to get monotonous and it's also not the right way to approach this exam. When should the preparation ideally be started? From the beginning of the course. As we cannot hope to build concepts in a few month's time before the exam. It's the knowledge that we gain over the years that helps us on exam day. Please list the books you studied for each subject. Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine and short subjects from Across. Medicine by Deepak Marwah Surgery by Amit Ashish Obstetrics and Gynecology by Sakshi Arora PSM by Vivek Jain Pathology and Pharmacology by Arvind Arora ROAMS for revision. Have you attempted FMGE previously? If yes, what did you do differently this year that lead to your success? No, this was my first time How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for FMGE and how much time should be dedicated for it? Practice and Revision are a must for any MCQs-based exam. There is a lot of information to learn and remember for exams. I had selected some of the subjects I felt I was weak in to revise from time to time. Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how? Yes. I used to give subjectwise tests on PrepLadder after finishing a subject. I gave All India Mock tests by Dr Deepak Marwah as well. Scoring good marks in subject-wise tests and mock tests helped me build confidence for the exam. Did you use a timetable/study plan to keep your preparation on track? Yes, I did. Initially, I used to study 6 hours a day which changed to 12 hours a day in the last 2 and a half months. I gave more time to subjects like Medicine, Surgery, PSM, and Pathology. My plan was to revise the theory at least 4 times and practice more tests. Were you a topper or a mediocre student during graduation? I was one of the toppers during graduation. List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you. Microbiology when I started it was difficult for me. Anatomy was the easiest for me. One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for FMGE One should not underestimate the level of the exam. The pattern has changed over the years. There are different websites that claim to have old papers, the actual exam is not going to be like that. So, I would suggest other students preparing for the exam keep themselves updated with new pattern questions and information. Some last tips for our readers preparing for FMGE?
