In order to gain admission to any PG Medical courses like MD, MS, MDS, DM, MCh, etc in any government, private, deemed, and central universities across India, the most important eligibility prerequisite is that of an entrance exam. These PG medical entrance exams are conducted at the National level.

NEET PG Entrance Exams

NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate courses is the largest, most important common entrance exams in India. Candidates who wish to gain admission in a PG course at any government, private, deemed or central university across India must appear for the exam. It is conducted by NBE (National Board of Examinations). 

The next PG medical entrance exam 2023 is scheduled to be held on March 5, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Aspirants must have completed MBBS from a college recognized by MCI.
• The minimum age limit for candidates is 22 years and there is no upper age limit. 
•  Candidates must have completed one year of internship before the date of appearance in NEET PG.

NEET PG Exam Pattern 

• The entrance test will be a computer-based test (CBT). 
• It will be of 3 hours duration and will consist of 200 multiple choice questions (MCQs).
• The questions will be asked from all 19 subjects studied during MBBS course.
• Each correct answer will fetch 4 marks while each wrong answer will lead to deduction of 1 mark. 
• There is no negative marking for unanswered questions.

NEET PG Application Process  

Candidates eligible for medical PG exam 2023 can apply online at the official website - nbe.edu.in. The application process comprises of registration, filling up of personal and academic details, uploading of images and payment of application fee.

INI-CET 

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Postgraduate Entrance Examination (INI-CET) is a national level entrance examination conducted by the AIIMS for admission to various postgraduate medical courses offered at AIIMS institutes across the country.  The selection of candidates for admission to AIIMS PG courses will be based on their performance in the entrance exam. Candidates who qualify the entrance exam are called for counseling through which they are allotted seats as per their preferences and rank in the merit list.

The next INI-CET exam will be conducted on 13th November, 2022.

Eligibility Criteria

• To be eligible for INI-CET , you must have completed MBBS from a Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized institute. 
• You must also have completed one year of internship before the date of counseling.

Exam Pattern

• INI-CET is a computer-based test (CBT) consisting of 200 multiple choice questions (MCQs). 
• The syllabus for the exam covers topics from all subjects taught during the MBBS course.
• The duration of the exam is 3 hours. 
• The examination is divided into four sections – Section A (Basic Sciences), Section B (Clinical Sciences), Section C (Preclinical Sciences) and Section D (Paraclinical Sciences). 
• Each section has 50 MCQs. 
• There is negative marking for wrong answers – 1/3rd mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Application Process

Candidates will be required to fill in the online application form and submit it along with the requisite fee. You will first need to register yourself on the website and fill in the necessary details. Then upload your recent passport size photograph and signature. After successful submission of the application form, you are required to pay the application fee through credit/debit card or net banking. After the submission of the form, you will be allotted a roll number.

JIPMER PG, PGIMER & NIMHANS

Prior to 2020, candidates interested in pursuing their postgraduate medical studies from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) had to appear for seperate entrance exams. However, this was changed when the entrance exams for JIPMER, PGIMER & NIMHANS were merged with INI-CET. 

As of now, candidates will be granted admission to these institutions on the basis of their INI-CET score.
