NEET SS Exam Pattern

NEET SS is the single entrance exam for admission to DM/MCh and DNB/DrNB Super Specialty courses for the academic session 2022-23. 

This year, the NEET SS exam is scheduled for 1st and 2nd of September. The registration for the exam has already started on the 15th July, 2022, and the last date to submit an application is 4th of August, 2022. 

While you are all focused on the last-minute preparations for the upcoming NEET SS exam, experts recommend going through the exam pattern thoroughly beforehand. Especially now that the exam pattern is slightly changed as compared to last year.

NEET SS Latest Exam Pattern - 2022-2023

The exam pattern for NEET SS 2023 will be computer-based. It will be a group-based exam and the questions will be asked only from the broad speciality feeder. Unlike last year, candidates will have the choice to opt for any of the super specialities as per the feeder subject.

Earlier, the candidates could choose only 2 super-specialities and the exam constituted 40% questions from feeder broad speciality and 60% from the super speciality. 

Group Based Exam

The courses offered for admission through NEET SS 2022 are grouped into 13 different groups. There will be a common question paper for admission to all the super speciality courses covered in a particular group.

Accordingly, candidates will appear for the question paper of the group corresponding to the choice of their super speciality. You can appear in multiple groups for which your PG speciality qualification is an eligible feeder qualification. 

Primary Feeder Category

Each group will have a primary feeder broad speciality, details of which you can check here. Accordingly, the question paper for each group will have questions from the general/ basic component and all sub-speciality/systems/components of respective primary feeder broad speciality subjects.

Question Paper

According to the NEET SS 2023 exam pattern, a total of 150 questions will be asked. Candidates shall be given 2 1⁄2 hours duration (150 minutes) to attempt the questions. All the 150 questions would be from the Curriculum of the Post Graduate Exit level of the primary feeder broad speciality subject.

Marking Scheme

  • 25% negative marking for incorrect answers. 
  • No deduction for unattempted questions. 

Allocation of marks for each MCQ shall be as follows:
