Have you attempted any PG exam previously? If yes, what were your ranks then and what did you do different this time that lead to your success?
I attended NEET this year and got 5846 rank. I hadn’t revised for NEET PG and hence had lost my hope on it. Once I graduated, I got more time to study and revise. I solved more mcqs and revised to get a good rank in may AIIMS.
How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for AIIMS PG and how much time should be dedicated for it?
Revision and practice are the most important things for any entrance exam. Everything should be at spinal level to be able to solve that fast. Hence you should revise the revised and practice as many mcqs as possible according to your time constraints.
Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?
I had given PrepLadder’s AIIMS mock and JIPMER mock. It showed me where I stood amongst others. It gave me a positive feedback to study more to be better.
Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track?
Yes, I had a study plan but used to fall short of it. But I had kept few buffer days to cover the left out topics so that I could be on track again.
Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MBBS?
I was mediocre student with 68% overall in MBBS.
List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.
Most difficult was Anatomy, Orthopedics, Surgery, OBG micro.
Easiest were Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Dermatology, Radiology, Biochemistry, Medicine.
One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for AIIMS PG.
Reading too much. You should read selectively and revise the same rather than reading extensively. Solving previous papers helps us to know what topics to be read. But as always the pattern keeps changing so should know other topics as well but not just the repeat topics.
What was your exam taking strategy? How many questions did you attempt in AIIMS PG?
I started from 1st question and marked whatever I knew for sure in first round. Then I came back to the remaining questions and solved them by reading them again. I did the paper in three rounds which helped me in exam. I attempted 188 questions.
Some last tips for our readers preparing for PG?
Never lose hope. Fight till the last minute of the exam. I had lost hope for NEET and hence couldn’t do well but my friends who had kept their hopes alive could do well and got nice rank. So all the best and do well.
We thank Dr. H.R.Rajathadri for sharing his success story.
Best Wishes for PG Entrance
