Hello, please tell us something about yourself.

Hi, my name is Dr. Deepak Gupta. This year in the month January, I passed out from International School of Medicine and in first attempt with an aggregate of 162 marks I cleared my MCI- FMGE exam.

What do you think is the correct approach to study for FMGE? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?

According to me, in order to clear FMGE the appropriate approach is to study theory first, followed by MCQ’s and then again theory. With this approach, after MCQ’s we will get a clear cut idea about the important topics, our strength and the portion we need to focus on. Also when we get back into the theory again, our mind and brain will have a rational idea as to what is more important and what’s not and on which topic we need to focus more and which all topics just need revision.

When should the preparation ideally be started?

Well, I believe one who really wish to clear FMGE and become a good doctor, by the term good doctor here I mean is the one who has all his concepts clear and has good knowledge of the field undertaken, must start with the preparation from the first year onwards. However, due to the tight college schedule, one may not be able to do so, thus, one must begin with the preparation by at least third year.

Besides these books, I referred many other books and materials as well. But the above mentioned books were the main references for me.

Have you attempted FMGE previously? If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success

It was my first attempt to FMGE.

How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for FMGE and how much time should be dedicated for it?

Well, practice and revision is must while preparing for FMGE, as all the topics in the theory are important and none can be ignored, thus, one must schedule the entire syllabus and MCQ’s according to the time available and devote some hours for at least 4-5 revisions. While practicing the MCQ’s, the clarity of concept, retention, and attention of the brain must be analyzed and further preparation is timetabled accordingly.

Did PrepLadder played a part in your success? If yes, how?

I must say PrepLadder, really helped me a lot. The questions provided are well framed and up to the mark which help the aspirants in hitting their target. Moreover, with the MCQ’s furnished, I was able to analyze my level of preparation and geared up for the further studies accordingly.

Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

For examination point of view studying hard is necessary but studying smart is an art, thus, I believe study plan is more important as it will help to cover the important topics first and later on, we can move on to the other topics, and as we plan our preparation and stay focused the time table is framed by itself.

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during graduation?

I was one of the nice students of my batch.

List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you

Among all the subjects, the ones difficult for me were Paediatric, Pshyciatry, opthamology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. But I always keep myself motivated by positive placebo effect.

One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for FMGE

While preparing for FMGE, if the basic concept of the topic is not clear, the whole effort goes into vain, thus while carrying out the theoretical preparation one must focus on concept rather than completion of the syllabus. Apart from this, patience and focus must be strongly developed, which will prove really helpful at the time of examination.

Some last tips for our readers preparing for FMGE?

Clearing FMGE is not as tough as building 1000 statues in a night, stay focused, be positive, remind yourself about your actual aim ’to be a good doctor’, and believe yourself, this will surely make your preparation better than the previous day. Your preparation should always be such that it earns you 200+ marks because end result might be 20-30 marks less than the expected marks. All the best !!
