Questions You Need To Avoid in GATE 2022

When you finally have the GATE paper in your hand, the first and foremost thing that you should do after quickly scanning it is to focus on decision making. A prompt decision related to the questions you will start your paper with and how you’ll manage your crucial time to complete the paper!

You should utilize your time effectively by solving questions that you are confident in without giving a second thought. Because the lost time cannot be recovered and you don’t want to take chances with your crucial attempt as you have studied hard in your GATE exam preparation.

Most importantly, you should shun the perfectionist attitude of solving the entire paper. Even, the brightest minds are unable to achieve that milestone. Always remember, that you can only claim marks for the right answers and not for the number of questions attempted.

So that you reach one step closer to fulfilling your dream of cracking GATE, in this article, we will share some useful insights on the types of questions to avoid in GATE 2022.

Types of Questions to be Ignored While Attempting GATE

Questions/Concepts Never Heard Of

Don’t take the unwanted risk or the greed of solving a question that you have never heard before as it will lead to negative marking along with time wastage. Hence, it is advisable to skip the question and proceed to the next. Be a smart candidate!

The amount of time you will invest in trying to solve (or even reading repeatedly) a question that you are completely unaware of will ultimately snatch away the time from you that can be adequately spent on solving questions that you are 50-60% sure.

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with Confusing Options

There are times when even a simple MCQ comes with confusing options that not only eat up your crucial time but also debits your marks if attempted casually. So, a straight NO, to such questions!

In MCQs, choose the correct option only when you are 110% sure of the answer, or else get ready for the negative marking. Guesswork can only be implemented in the case of Numerical Answer Type Questions (NATs).

Questions from Unprepared Subjects

Since the GATE syllabus is vast, many times students are unable to cover the entire syllabus and prefer selective study and preparation. However, the GATE paper comprises questions from all subjects of the pre-defined syllabus.

So, in case you come across a question from a subject that you did not prepare at all, you should skip that question. In case you still attempt that question, you will be doing more harm than good!

However, if time permits, you can take the liberty to attempt questions from unprepared subjects only in the case of Numerical Answer Type Questions.
