Today we share the interview of Dr. Arnav who secured a rank 38 in NEET PG 2017. He shares his preparation tips and the study plan he used to get such an amazing rank in NEET PG this year. Use these tips to prepare and secure a good rank in NEET PG.

Hello, please tell us something about yourself.

Dr. Arnav H. Tongaonkar, Seth G.S. Medical College and KEMH, NEET PG rank 38. I am a devotee of Sadguru Aniruddha Bapu (Dr. Aniruddha D. Joshi). His guidance, support and practical philosophies are the major force behind my achievement. I am a poet, writer and debator. Bapu and my parents have always supported and encouraged to balance these activities with my studies, and to pursue them even while studying for NEET !

What do you think is the correct approach to study for NEET PG? Only MCQ's or Theory + MCQ's?

Theory is indispensable as it gives a chance to read the matter and strengthen our concepts. At the same time, MCQs allow us to judge whether we have grasped the concept and also familiarize us with the way questions are framed.

When should the preparation ideally be started?

At the beginning of internship. It is not worth taking stress form the early years of MBBS as enjoying these years is very important in sustaining one's energy till the end. I will also add that joining a Foundation Course in 3rd Minor is useful as it orients us towards MCQs and the approach to each subject.

Have you attempted PGMEE previously? If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success
No. This was my first attempt.
How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for NEET PG and how much time should be dedicated for it?
It is important to read the matter many times, even at the cost of doing fewer subjects.

Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?

Yes! Most certainly. I solved many of the PrepLadder NEET pattern tests. They gave me a good idea of how good my overall preparation was. Knowing the state of the overall preparation is much more important than each subject-wise score. These tests helped me to understand how to face 19 subjects together. They also gave me practice of Computer-based tests, before facing the actual exam and since their software is like the real NEET exam, it's the perfect solution.

Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

Yes, I maintained an extensive and detailed timetable. This is essential to avoid losing focus and to maintain the momentum.

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MBBS?

I was never exactly a topper, being involved heavily in extra-curricular activities. I managed to score decently though.

List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.

Most difficult: Anatomy, Ortho, Micro Easiest: Physio, ENT
One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for NEET PG.
 
Don't lose hope in the middle of the attempt! If things get difficult, take a day off to start again with a fresh mind. Don't dive too deep into any subject or feel afraid because someone knows more than you.

Some last tips for our readers preparing for NEET PG?

Make notes that suit your existing knowledge and pattern of learning. Discuss difficult topics with friends but don't let this discussion time interfere with your reading time. Find a book you like for each subject and stick to it, don't waste time trying to read multiple books. Cultivate a hobby that doesn't consume much time or energy so that you have something to divert your mind when the pressure builds up. Lastly, Work hard with focus and keep going! Have faith in God and in yourself.
