Eligibility Criteria

  1. The candidate must possess a primary medical qualification awarded by an institution listed in the list published buy the WHO or which is considered by the Indian Embassy to be a recognised qualification for enrolment as medical practitioner in the country in which the Institution awarding the qualification is located
  2. The candidate must possess an ‘Eligibility Certificate’ from the Medical Council of India in accordance with the eligibility requirements for taking admission in UG medical courses in foreign medical institution regulations 2002.

Definitions

As per the regulations:

  1. ‘Act’ implies the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956
  2. Council’ implies the Medical Council of India framed under Section 3 of the act
  3. ‘Permanent Registration’  implies registration for enrolment on any State Medical Register or Indian Medical Register after obtaining the essential qualification and practical training as prescribed either in India or abroad as per the provisions of the Act
  4. ‘Prescribed’ implies dictated by regulations made under this Act
  5. ‘Prescribed Authority’ implies a Medical Institution which has been authorised by the Central Government to conduct screening test
  6. ‘Primary Medical Qualification’ implies a medical  qualification which is awarded by a medical institution outside India and considered as a recognized qualification for  enrolment as a medical practitioner and is equivalent to MBBS in India
  7. ‘Provisional Registration’ implies a provisional registration  awarded by State Medical Council or Indian Medical Council for the purpose of obtaining practical training in India by an Indian Citizen possessing a primary medical qualification but has not obtained practical training after obtaining that qualification.
  8. ‘Qualifying Examination’ implies the examination which must be qualified in order to become eligible  for admission to MBBS Course in India.
  9. ‘Registration’ implies either ‘provisional’ or ‘permanent’ registration

The Council shall issue the provisional registration to such candidates who are yet to undergo one-year internship.
