In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, she shares the plan that worked for her to help you get an amazing rank too. Hello, please tell us something about yourself. I'm Dr. Jayati Tripathi MBBS from CIMS Chhattisgarh. I got 26th rank in UPSC CMS Exam (2016). What do you think is the correct approach to study for UPSC CMS? Only Medical content or Medical content + General ability? I think most important is thoroughness in medical subjects especially medicine, surgery, Obgy and PSM. So far general ability is concerned keeping an eye on current affairs and basic knowledge of civics and geography would suffice. When should the preparation ideally be started? 5 -6 months are more than enough so that you can at least have 2 revisions before the written exam. Also read: No one can make it without test practice, says Dr. Shalini V Singh (UPSC CMS Rank 77) Please list the books you studied for each subject. I used Elsevier's CMS guide (4th) edition for going through the previous years question papers. For medicine, I used the books for MBBS. How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for UPSC CMS and how much time should be dedicated for it? Practice and revision are the key to success in any exam. 8 hours per day is mandatory out of which 2 hours for question solving and 2 hours for revision of what you studied is a must. Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track? I didn’t adhere to any strict time table but yes I kept a track of my preparation and topic completion on a weekly basis so that I could finish things on time. Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MBBS? Yes, I was a gold medalist in my 3rd year MBBS. List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you. For me, Medicine is difficult and PSM is the easiest. Do you think Online test series is required for UPSC CMS exam preparation? Yes of course. It helps us check our progress and where we stand in terms of accuracy and time management. Distinct features of PrepLadder’s UPSC CMS Pro Pack
