Jan 7, 2019

PrepLadder congratulates Dr. Virang Patel on clearing FMGE Dec 2018 exam. We wish him all the very best for his career and future ahead. In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, he shares his plan that worked best for him to help score well in FMGE. Hello, please tell us something about yourself. Myself Virang Patel. I have completed my medical graduation from Bukovinian State Medical University (BSMU), Ukraine. I scored 219 (9th highest marks) in FMGE Dec 2018.

What do you think is the correct approach to study for FMGE? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?

Both Theory and MCQ are equally important. But first everyone should make their own notes for each subject and then practice as many MCQs as possible and simultaneously revising notes for multiple times. You should also add new important points into your notes while solving MCQs. Again Revise your notes and solve MCQs.

When should the preparation ideally be started?

Everyone will come up with different answers for this question. My Ans is AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. You should do a conceptual study for the first 2-3 years of your college. Then, you should shift your focus to exam concentric study.

Please list the books you studied for each subject.

Notes written by yourself is the first preference. Because they are smooth and quick to revise. Following books, I have read. You can read them but it's not must read. Patho - Sparsh Gupta Pharma - Gobindrai Garg Obs and Gynec - Sakshi Arora Physio - Sembulingam Surgery - Pritesh Singh Ophthalmology - Arvind Arora Short subs - PROAFS by Vivek Jain Psychiatric - Praveen Tripathi PSM - VIVEK JAIN NOTES written by yourself are the best. They are enough if you are also adding some points after solving MCQs.

Have you attempted FMGE previously? If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success

No. This was my first attempt

How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for FMGE and how much time should be dedicated for it?

They are the backbone of your preparation. Revision is the key to crack the exam

Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?

Yes. Prepladder was very helpful during my preparation. Solving MCQs on PrepLadder app was a great experience and time-saving. I had given 7 grand test on PrepLadder and many more MCQ tests including subject tests and Daily quiz

Did you use a timetable/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

Yes. I would suggest making a long-term study plan according to the span of time you have before your exam. You can change & evaluate your timetable and study plan. Be flexible.

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during graduation?

I was a mediocre student.

List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.

I found most of the subjects interesting. 1st read of anatomy and microbiology was difficult for me but after revising it twice it became easy.

One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for FMGE

I regret that I didn’t make my own notes for all 19 subjects. Two to three subjects I read from Xerox. And start practicing MCQs as early as possible. Don’t wait or think that first let me finish all the subjects and then I will practice MCQs. That time will never come. Better finish a single subject and start solving its MCQs.
