PrepLadder congratulates Dr. Prabhat Prakash Narayan on clearing the FMGE exam. We wish him all the best for his career and future ahead. In this exclusive interview with PrepLadder, he shares the plan that worked for him to help to get a wonderful score in FMGE.

Hello, please tell us something about yourself.

Hello, I am Dr. Prabhat Prakash Narayan from the Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University, Ukraine. I secured 175 marks in December 2016 FMGE , this was my 1st attempt.

What do you think is the correct approach to study for FMGE? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?

It always has to be the- "Theory coupled with MCQ" approach, with primary importance given to theory aspect before solving any MCQ book. Building the basic concept is highly essential for every aspirant, as the trend of questions has drastically changed from this year.

When should the preparation ideally be started?

If we talk about "ideal" preparation one has to begin preparing in the last 2 years of medical school. But with a focused approach 6 months are quite sufficient to crack it. Also Read: Success Story of PrepLadder Alumni Dr Aniket in FMGE

Please list the books you studied for each subject.

The dedicated faculty at MIST prepared me well enough for all the subjects. But its essential for a student to go through a standard MCQ book. MCQ Book -by Dr. Deepak Marwah, KALAM(DNB), PSM- Vivek Jain, PrepLadder for Practice and evaluation. For those who are preparing by themselves I saw an excellent range of books essential for exam provided by the PrepLadder team.

Have you attempted FMGE previously? If yes, what did you do different this year that lead to your success.

No, this was my 1st attempt

How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for FMGE and how much time should be dedicated for it?

Revision is the key to guaranteed success in FMGE. With each revision I found that the time taken to re-revise and recapitulate a data considerably decreases. I reserved the last 30-45 days for a thorough revision. And the last few days - smart study, focusing on high yield subjects was productive

Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?

Undoubtedly, practice was extremely essential and with PrepLadder I could practice almost anywhere. PrepLadder provided Images, MCQs, Explanations, Statistics, time management tips and the same simulated software like the real FMGE. I used to wonder previously that why PrepLadder questions are difficult, but now after giving the exam I feel that it is apt with the ever increasing difficulty level of the exam.

Did you use a time table/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

Yes, I did. It helped me revise and practice in a systematic way.

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during graduation?

I fared pretty well at my University.

List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.

Easy ones- Biochemistry, Physiology, Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology. Difficult ones- Pharmacology, Microbiology(not that these subject are hard to understand, but a constant revision is required- and you can score maximum in them).

One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for FMGE

Procrastination, postponing your revision schedule just adds on to pressure and when you read it after a few weeks, it takes more time to recall the facts. So a constant revision is vital - 2-3 times for all essential subjects.

Some last tips for our readers preparing for FMGE?

Be sincere and true to yourself. Success lies out of the comfort zone. Never stress out especially in the last 2 days of exam (have enough sleep a day before). Don't read anything NEW in the final week. REVISE as many times as possible. Motivate yourself, remember the reward reflex, this one exam will open up numerous doors for you. Remember, with the right training, the right direction and with the right intention you can overcome anything. ALL THE BEST :) Stay Tuned for more Topper tips by PrepLadder!
