Hello, please tell us something about yourself.

Hello, I am Dr. Antony Raj James, I did my MBBS from Villupuram Medical College. I scored Rank 54 in JIPMER May 2018.

What do you think is the correct approach to study for JIPMER? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?

The correct approach is, first start with a lot of theory and little MCQs and as the exam approaches go for more of MCQs and less of theory

When should the preparation ideally be started?

The ideal time to start the preparation is after the internship. But it is better to get your concepts strong before internship.

Please list the books you studied for each subject.

Anatomy - Raviraj
Physiology - Krishnakumar
Pathology - Devesh Mishra
Biochemistry - Rebecca James
Pharmacology - Sparsh Gupta
Microbiology - Apurba Sastry
Forensics - Mahendran
PSM - Vivek Jain
Optha - Utsav Bansal sirs SOCH
ENT - Dr.Manishas ENT
Medicine - DAMS notes

Have you attempted any PG exam previously? If yes, what were your ranks then and what did you do different this time that lead to your success?

Yes, my All India Rank Was around 5000.
So I changed my preparation quite a bit started revising, again and again, it doesn't matter how hard we get hit, it matters that we get hit and keep moving forward and this May my PGI general Rank was 339.

How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for JIPMER and how much time should be dedicated for it?

JIPMER needs just one extra preparation reading Arun babu sirs book it is the key to success in JIPMER.

Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?

Yes the mock tests towards the end were very good I got a rank of 302 in AIIMS Mock 121 In PGI Mock and 300 in JIPMER Mock which really boosted my confidence and many questions were also repeated in the May 2018 entrance exam. Taking Mock exam is one of the most important steps in ones preparation.

Did you use a timetable/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

Not exactly a time table I started giving everyday morning 4 hours for subjects studied the week before it really boosted my confidence and never stop revising

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MBBS?

Was an average student

List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.

Most difficult was PSM and easy one was short subjects

One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for JIPMER.

Giving too much importance to tough MCQs like new drugs and genes is a mistake that is going to be only 50 questions the rest 200 is the area we need to concentration on where there will be 40 plus repeats which we should never go wrong and short subjects are very important

What was your exam taking strategy? How many questions did you attempt in JIPMER?

I wanted to attend a maximum number of questions. I attended 238 questions. Attending maximum question is one of the keys to success in JIPMER exam

Some last tips for our readers preparing for PG?

Never get depressed for getting a bad rank in one exam, one exam is not related to the other. Keep pushing hard and suddenly success will be knocking on your doorstep.
We thank Dr. Antony Raj James for sharing his success story.
Best Wishes for PG entrance With Love, Team PrepLadder
