Hello, please tell us something about yourself.

Hello, I am Dr. S.Lokesh Koumar, I did my MBBS from Indra Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute. I scored Rank 25 in this recent JIPMER exam.

What do you think is the correct approach to study for JIPMER? Only MCQ's or Theory+MCQ's?

I think it's always good to study both theory and MCQs. Appropriate theory stuff and maximum MCQ in those areas.

When should the preparation ideally be started?

I think preparation should be started during Internship.

Please list the books you studied for each subject.

Mostly self made notes.

Pharmacology - Ranjan Kumar Patel

Anatomy - Rajesh Kaushal

Have you attempted any PG exam previously? If yes, what were your ranks then and what did you do different this time that lead to your success?

Yes, I focussed on the repeats and mistakes and MCQ solving

How big is the role of practice and revision while preparing for JIPMER and how much time should be dedicated for it?

Revision is the master key. But for JIPMER like exams getting the repeats and indirect repeat areas are the cornerstone. I dedicated 6 hours for revision every day.

Did PrepLadder play a part in your success? If yes, how?

Yes, it did. PrepLadder had improved it's question standards to a great level. A lot of clinical & practical questions either directly or indirectly came from PrepLadder Q Banks and I used to bookmark my mistakes and revise it.

Did you use a timetable/study plan to keep your preparation on track?

Yes, A plan without a timetable is like a boat without directions.

Were you a topper or a mediocre student during MBBS?

I was a mediocre student.

List the most difficult and easiest subjects for you.

Anatomy is difficult and psychiatry is my easiest.

One mistake that you believe everyone must avoid while preparing for JIPMER.

Get the direct repeats perfectly right, do try to get the indirect repeats right.

What was your exam taking strategy? How many questions did you attempt in JIPMER?

For an exam like JIPMER where negative marking is relatively less, you can answer to a maximum number of questions say I attempted 230.

Some last tips for our readers preparing for PG?

Don't fall into the illusion that JIPMER exam is only for JIPMER. Don't miss this exam thinking it is eccentric and mysterious questions. One can crack this exam by just focusing on JIPMER favorite areas. " WHEN U WANT SOMETHING, ALL THE UNIVERSE CONSPIRES HELP U ACHIEVE IT."
